Missing teeth can prevent you from living life to the fullest. If you have lost all your teeth due to periodontal disease, trauma or tooth decay, a denture by Drs. Shah and Velilla in the Detroit Metro area can change your life.
Dentures are removable appliances that fit over the gums and function like natural teeth. A well-made denture can help restore your smile and improve your life in many ways.
Benefits of dentures
- Restore your smile
- Help preserve your facial features (prevents sagging)
- Improve speech as the lips and tongue can move normally again
- Help with the preservation of the jaw bone
What can I expect?
When you visit Drs. Shah and Velilla about the possibility of dentures, know that you are in the best possible care. They will take the extra time to answer all of your questions and make sure you are comfortable with your individualized treatment plan. Typically the process goes as follows:
The doctors will make a series of impressions of your jaw and take measurements. They will assess your jaw alignment and spacing to ensure the perfect fit for your new dentures. Then they will create a model or wax form in the exact shape of the denture and you will try it several times until everyone is happy with the fit and the color before the final denture is made. Once the model is ready, the final denture will be cast and adjustments will be made until you are comfortable and the doctors are happy with the fit. The process can take weeks depending on any preparations to the mouth that need to be made prior to the fitting. Traditional dentures are removable and can be taken out for cleaning.
Implant supported dentures
If you are interested in dentures that are more secure, the doctors can discuss the possibility of implant supported dentures. Implant supported dentures are attached to implants that have fused with the jaw bone. The benefit of implant supported dentures is the security you can feel knowing your dentures are locked into place and will never embarrassingly shift or loosen. The process of getting implant supported dentures depends upon your current state of health. Dental implant placement can take months as the implants need time to heal and properly adhere to the jawbone.
We would love to have the opportunity to discuss your future with dentures. Many denture wearers are surprised at how wonderful their new smile makes them feel. If you are interested in investing in dentures, we offer an in-office financing plan to help our patients get the care they need.
